My iPhone disappeared from my desk this afternoon . If the security cameras on my floor hadn’t been malfunctioning, perhaps I could have posted a “watch my phone getting stolen” a la CofFL’s car.

I put it in lost mode, but Find My iPhone tells me it’s offline so that I can’t locate it. Calling it goes straight to voice mail. If I don’t get it back by tomorrow, I’m going to brick it remotely and go buy another phone. I need a working phone for work. I’m pretty pissed, but in the end, it’s just stuff.

I would like to find the shit who took it and beat the crap out of him, just for invading my personal space like that.

Just to keep it light, here is the last pic it took. I was greeted by this view when I opened my eyes Sunday, courtesy of my daughter’s warped sense of humor.

P.S: if by some remarkable miracle it turns out I find it and that it got lost because of something stupid I did, I will be seriously relieved. I don’t know if I’ll admit it to you guys though.

Theft is so infuriating because the nominal pennies on the dollar they might make, pales in comparison the expense of the loss to the owner.

I bet they are hoping they’ll also find one they can use to rack up lots of purchases with the info they find on it somehow. Don’t know how that would work though, as I have touch ID and a passcode on it.

Fnding it after f orgeting it somewhere stupid feels alot better then realising one of your coworkers will steal from you.

I had left my water bottle at work over night, which no big deal I’ve done it a few times before as my desk is located where the customers can’t get to it. Come back the next day it’s gone. I looked everywhere at work and told all my coworkers that it was missing, looked at home, in the car, everywhere. Since I couldn't find it it must have been stolen by a coworker.

I’d pay money for that. I can remote erase it, and I will tomorrow if I can’t track it when it gets turned on. But that means someone will still have my phone with a nice new Otterbox on it to sell or reconfigure.

I worked in a school in Oakland and the kids would spot a phone and then stage a really dramatic disturbance where they’d scream and make like they were about to fight and by the time Security got it straightened out the teacher’s iPhone would have disappeared, usually a substitute teacher. I had to fire a sub one time the same day she’d had her phone stolen. It was a no good, horrible, really bad day for her. That school... More like a miniature penitentiary. Working in Oakland left me with ptsd that, after five or six years, has begun to fade. The craziness with the kids I could handle because I’d signed up for it. The intentional setup for me to fail was the tough part. But the kid part was good. Took me half a year, but the kids came to trust me.

Glad to be done with that place. Oakland is a profoundly, catastrophically dysfunctional place.

If you don’t erase it from your icloud it can’t be set up by someone else. I forgot a password on my phone I erased, and since it was locked to my dummy icloud it’s just a 5s brick now. So the person can only sell it for parts.

It depends a bit on what next to nothing is. People still hope to make $200+ for a used one on Ebay, and a for parts one seems to be in the $100 range.

( My wife’s 6S Plus has lost the use of the physical home button, and the screen is freezing occasionally , so I am looking at possible ways to replace it. I’m hoping it makes it to October when the new iPhone comes out and drives prices for 7(s) down.)

well we’d have to get a few more people. a pickup with a bunch of people in the back drove onto campus. one had bolt cutters and cut all the locks, then everyone took a bike and split.

I had just replaced my screen and the camera and bought a new otterbox. I was looking at keeping it for a long time. Sigh. Off to the Apple store.
